چکیده

The results of neurophysiological research have indicated the important role of neuromodulation in behavior decisions during fighting between male crickets. To understand such a dynamic behavior generation mechanism, we attempt to construct a neuromodulation model of behavior selection for the fighting behavior of a cricket. In this paper, we propose a dynamic system model of neuromodulation with the efficacy based on neurophysiological knowledge, facts, and hypotheses from the viewpoint of synthesis. The efficacy of the sensory processing center is introduced to our previous model and its dynamics is influenced by the frequency of the interactions with the other cricket. Utilizing an extended neuromodulation model, computer simulations related to a multiple-individual environment were carried out, and the results are discussed. In particular, the properties related to the standard deviation of the value of octopamine in several population density cases are discussed. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Aggressive behavior in the antennectomized male cricket Gryllus bimaculatus.

Male crickets (Gryllus bimaculatus) exhibit intensively defensive aggressive behavior towards attacking males most often culminating in fighting. After the fight, the loser no longer exhibits aggressiveness in a second, separate encounter with another male; rather, the defeated male exhibits avoidance behavior. Here, we investigated the role of sensory input from the antennae in male defensive ...

A model for group-size-dependent behaviour decisions in insects using an oscillator network.

Aggressive behaviour within pairs of male crickets leads to the establishment of a dominance hierarchy. Defeated males avoid their victorious adversaries for several hours before regaining aggressiveness. However, the defeated male does not regain aggressiveness if repeated fighting occurs. Loss of individual aggressiveness is limited by group size, which constrains the number of crickets fight...

Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Modulates Electrical Behavior of the Neurons: Design and Implementation of a Model

Background: Recently, ultrasonic neuromodulation research has been an important and interesting issue. Ultrasonic neuromodulation is possible by the use of low-intensity transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) to stimulate or inhibit the neural structures. The primary capability of this method is the improvement in the treatment progress of certain neurological and psychiatric disorders noninvas...

H-BwoaSvm: A Hybrid Model for Classification and Feature Selection of Mammography Screening Behavior Data

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer in the world. Early detection of cancers cause significantly reduce in morbidity rate and treatment costs. Mammography is a known effective diagnosis method of breast cancer. A way for mammography screening behavior identification is women's awareness evaluation for participating in mammography screening programs. Todays, intelligence systems could...

Alternative male strategies: genetic differences in crickets.

Male field crickets, Gryllus integer, call and attract mates, or they silently intercept females attracted to calling males. Selection experiments demonstrate that the duration of nightly calling has an important genetic component. Mean calling times in high and low lines were significantly different and had realized heritabilities of 0.50 and 0.53, respectively. Selection can operate in such a...
